The consortium has made great progress! (September 2026)
We are very proud of the progress made in recycling garments (with puffy jackets used forthe trials), tires, and hoses waste.
After successfully completing the identification, sorting, preparation, and depolymerisation of these three types of waste at both laboratory and pilot scale, the consortium is proud to announce a major miles tone: the successful achievement of the polymer production step.
The journey has not been without challenges. The presence of non-PET fibres, coatings, and different treatments across the various waste streams created several technical hurdles. However, the consortium successfully developed solutions to over comethese challenges.
As are sult, we have successfully depolymerised the waste, extracted the monomers,and rebuilt a new polymer, which can then be used to produce yarns.
We are also proud to announce that yarn production has already been successfully achieved from the recycled garment waste, while trials with some of the other waste streams are still ongoing.
This marksanother important step towards transforming complex waste streams intovaluable, high-quality recycled materials.
