The Faces of the Project: A Portrait of Mr. Cardon, project coordinator

Olivier Cardon

With 30 years at Michelin corporate research and development, Olivier Cardon has managed scientific model development team, has contributed to novel technologies development in passenger and truck tire design. He managed several technological project and portfolios, contributing to Michelin technical leadership on the markets. Since 2019, he manages multi-partner innovation consortia, including the Tire Industry Project and the European project WHITECYCLE.

“Whitecycle is first and foremost a team of very different people and entities willing to succeed together on something they cannot achieve alone. Human relationship is fundamental here, as each of us comes with his own background, expertise, culture and objectives.

The role of coordinator consists in making the group make proper decision at the pace of the new questions raised throughout the innovation process. For example, facing difficulty to process feedstocks appropriately for the depolymerization phase, the team implemented rapid testing loops an agile way. I feel very proud of the team's success in preparing technical fiber, a know-how I have not seen outside Whitecycle.

Thanks to the consortium’s activity, I have the chance to see concrete solution to the global issue of recycling complex objects, like the consortium’s garment sorting prototype in Nouvelle Fibre Textile’s pre-industrial unit in Amplepuis, France.

To me, such collaborative research is the future of Innovation. ”
